NASA and the Carpet and Rug Industry lead NanoCode Technology Infusion Center with Georgia Tech
6/01/2007
AMERICUS, GA – June 1, 2007 – THE ONE GEORGIA AUTHORITY and the Georgia Centers of Innovation today awarded the NanoCode Technology Infusion Center a $50,000 matching grant to develop NanoCode applications in partnership with the Carpet and Rug Institute based in Dalton, GA.
Georgia’s Center of Innovation for Aerospace and the Georgia Tech Enterprise Innovation Institute sponsored the Georgia Centers of Innovation Matching Grant proposal. With the funding, researchers will begin work on establishing unique nano-sized taggant “codes” (nanocodes) for the Carpet and Rug Industry. The nanocodes can be used for in-situ quality control during the manufacturing of carpet, provide floor care and warranty information to authorized dealers. Nanocodes can even be used to instruct owners on the safe disposal of floor covering years after installation.
The grant approved today is the first step in establishing a Georgia Center of Excellence for developing a wide range of NanoCode applications for many industries that need an invisible, safe, reliable way to store information in various materials where attached or printed ID systems are not desired.
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration has established a Unique ID standard for NanoCodes as an approved method for aerospace manufacturers to use in marking parts, liquids, or other appropriate materials used in the space program. The NanoCode Technology Infusion Center will assist potential users of NanoCode identifiers to develop specialized applications for civil and military use.
