Since January, Jordan High School Senior Jesse Warren and five other students from Jordan and Hardaway have been working with Pratt & Whitney mechanics 19 hours a week and learning what it’s like to disassemble, clean, inspect, repair and replace jet engine assemblies.

Organizers say the new program, which began last year, gives students the chance to immerse themselves in a real work environment at an international company. For Pratt and Whitney, it helps build awareness about possible careers in aerospace and aviation, said Tom Bode, director of Pratt & Whitney’s Columbus Engine Center.

Prior to working with mentors at Pratt & Whitney, the six students had to successfully complete a dual enrollment program in which they’d take classes at their high schools and Columbus Tech. The college courses were covered through HOPE scholarships.
